Pit Goldschmidt

Born:
November 18, 1935, Hamburg
Died:
May 31, 2021, Hamburg

Pit Goldschmidt was given to a Catholic children's home as an infant by his mother, Käthe Starke-Goldschmidt, who wanted to keep him safe from the Nazis. He spent his childhood in various homes and with foster parents. Miraculously, his Jewish mother survived persecution and deportation to the Theresienstadt ghetto and returned to Hamburg after liberation in 1945. Pit was able to come to Hamburg in 1946 to live with his mother, whom he only now got to know.
